In my most recent experience, I worked with a team of around 12 people that were distributed among the United States, India, Algeria, and Costa Rica. We would have stand up meetings every morning and planning and sprint retrospective sessions every two weeks. We would use tools like Google Hangouts and Skype for communication, JIRA to keep track of the sprint progress, and GitHub for code sharing and continuous integration.

I worked for a startup, where I would discuss the application design and usability with the Product Owner and the UX designer. Those sessions were very important for the team because I was allowed to give my insights on which features were doable in a specific time frame and also to propose alternative solutions for those features that were not.
